How to burn 500 calories with home workout

I hope all of you are doing fine. Sending love and prayers. Stay home and stay safe. With extensions in the lockdown, it has become imperative to workout at home. Every day workouts feel good and they would also help in shedding some weight, toning the body. Here is a quick post on how to burn 500 calories with a home workout.

Weight loss is a mathematical calculation. Calories out minus calories in is the equation. It is said that if we create a deficit of 3500 calories, we tend to lose 1 pound of body weight. It is better to perform 500 calorie workouts if you are keen on weight loss. With the 500 calorie workouts every day you should be losing 1 pound in approximately 7-8 days. Kindly note that I am not calculating food intake here. ๐Ÿ™‚

Burn 500 Calories

We have been working out with Les Mills on Demand workouts and most of their workouts are 500 calorie burning workouts. There are approximately 9-10 numbers of 5 minute circuits. Each workout is 1 hour or 55 minutes. They cover warm up, and cool down along with core work with every workout.

This is a group workout, so the energy in this group is amazing. You do not feel you are pulling off a 500 calorie workout. I tried Body Attack 105 yesterday and it was amazing. They covered the following workouts:

Body combat has combat stances, kicks and other combination of martial art workouts. It is amazing to learn Karate, Muay Thai, Tai Chi moves in one single workout. Who knows all of it anyway? ๐Ÿ™‚ I personally like Rachel Newsham’s workouts, so it is a double bonanza. These workouts definitely burn 500 calories and are quite exhausting but you would enjoy with all that music. Les Mills have the best in class workout music. Bedtime Healthy Drinks That Boost Immunity

Hello all, I hope you are all doing good. Stay Home and Stay Safe. In India, we have extended lockdown in the wake of the covid19 pandemic. We have been asked to drink some of the drinks that boost immunity throughout the day to keep the disease at bay. Ayurveda has been the backbone of alternate medicine. This is an effective drink that boosts immunity, especially before bed. It clears sore throat and in case you have body pain. Boil some water, put turmeric, lemongrass, some cloves, a small stick of cinnamon, some crushed black pepper, Tulasi leaves if you have, some jaggery for it to taste good. Boil it for a couple of minutes. Strain it and your herbal tea is ready.

Golden Milk

Golden milk or turmeric latte is the age old method in India to alleviate cold and cough symptoms. If you are a vegan, you can use coconut milk or almond milk instead of normal milk. Just warm the milk, add turmeric and sugar if you please and drink it before bed time. It is a great immunity booster.

Crush almonds and some cardamom, you will get a nice aroma. You can also add some dairy creamer to the mixture to get a softer texture. Add this mixture to a glass of milk/ plant milk. If you are adding it to almond, oats , soy or coconut milk, please use a double boiler type heating technique to keep the milk together.

Known for its digestive property, cumin seed water is a great reliever of any digestive issues such as acidity and burps. It also reduces the chest pain which happens during acidic gas build up in the chest.

Anxiety is built up by consuming too much of news and media. While constantly being at home, try not to feed yourself to these news channels from across the world. Thyroid-stimulating hormone:- This one is the most crucial of all when it comes to reducing your weight. This one is responsible for a sluggish or an overactive metabolism.

Insulin:- This hormone acts like a switchboard to fat loss. It is secreted by the organs called the pancreas. It helps in regulating the blood sugar levels which are directly related to the fats storage system in the body.

What Not To Do During Lockdown to Boost Immunity


Hello all, I hope you are all happy and healthy and staying indoors. These 21 days of lockdown which is now extending in India, is a reminder to all of us to not do something which is absolutely unnecessary as we look forward to boosting immunity. Most of the people now in their free time would want to binge-watch Netflix, they would want to stay up the late-night but this is going to terribly affect their immunity.


What is Immunity?

Let us understand what is immunity first. immunity is the power of our body to protect itself from any unforeseen threat, the threat here is the virus or bacteria.

But how the body will produce the necessary antibodies if we do not give it a chance to run in a normal mode? A question that is worth asking right?

Here are 3 things which should not be done during the lock down.

Sleeping late:

Sleep is our body’s recovery mechanism. Whatever wear and tear that the body undergoes during the day is recovered with the help of the food we eat and the sleep. Any normal human being needs approximately 8-9 hours of good sleep to recover from a normal day which is moderately active. Let us not talk about athletes here. If you do not sleep on time and wake up on time. Lack of sleep suppresses the body’s ability to respond to common cough, cold and other bacterial infections. In these times of covid19, we need to sleep on time and wake up on time.

Sedentary Lifestyle:

After the lockdown, life has become extensively boring, as we do not get to mingle with people. We do not get to socialize, but that does not mean that you should stop moving around. Do some gardening, spend some time playing with your kids, keep up with those 10000 steps a day challenge. The purpose is to keep all the bodily juices flowing for keeping our immune system intact in case of any infection.

Immune System is the only armor humans have against the viruses/ bacterias.


In the times of rationing your food during the lockdown, it is easy to diet. But I do not mean that you should go on some fad diets which would put your complete system down. I do not want to cite any names here but it is always better to function on your normal food in these times of crisis, most of the time the supplies that are needed for a specific diet may not be available in the stores. With the extended lockdown in most of the parts of our country we begin with 30 day challenge fitness. After all what is there in your comfort zone? Getting up early in the morning at the dawn is what I look upto! Sometimes I catch up on the rising sun and many times I miss it too. Life is never the same and that makes it even more desirable.

When it comes to fitness, I often try to be mentally fit. Mentally fit meaning a person is head strong. He is able to keep calm through the uncertainties of the day. And this can happen when you are at peace.

Peaceful mornings can definitely play a big role in setting the tone of the day right. You have got extra hours in your hand, afterall. In case you get up late, follow these daily self care routine rituals which would never fail you throughout the day.

It is often said, that once when you wake up it is essential do first take care of your body,soul and mind. Not necessarily in that order. You may change the order. We all get up to the shlokams, hymns in praise of our Hindu Gods. 

1.Whatever be the religion, you may start the day with meditation. Meditation is the activity to concentrate on the same thought for a long time. It is not that you need to sit in one position or do this or do that. If you feel reading is meditation for you, then choice is yours. You may very well enjoy the book,poetry, prose or whatever you love.

2. Exercise:ย One can never emphasize on this one activity. Jumpstart your day with a good cardio/strength training exercises. Boost up your metabolism. A great jog, a beautiful swim, a sprint, yoga,a peaceful walk with the dog are some of the exercises you can choose from. Learn a a new dance form if you wish. The good hormones released during the exercise will make sure you have a fantastic day ahead.

3. Soul:- This part is little tricky. Because everyone has a different answer for this. And one has to dig in for his own answers. But once the answer is ready, you are set to transform in your life.My soul feels illuminated when I write. When I write, I find my soul there. 

Apart from this, it is important for you not to hurry in the early morning hours. You should be able to gauge your day, plan for it and get up accordingly. With these and many more other things fitness wonโ€™t be a challenge.
