How to make 2018 a great year!

How to make 2018 a great year!

December is here and we are just nearing an year end. Many of us must have had resolutions and through the year hardly 2 of them would have been accomplished, I bet. Some of us would just have not set up any resolution just because neither of them gets fulfilled but some of us would have done what they had decided pin to point this year.

We have hardly some days left ( 17 days to be accurate) and here is a foolproof guide to make it awesome in the last month.

How would you do that? Well…read on..

Knowing what you want from yourself:

  • Divide your life into Work, Family, Personal, Social categories
  • Deduce which of the following areas you would like to improvise on
  • Say for example Family, break down the things that you miss out on the family front.
    • Family
      • Dining together
      • Spending time with each other (Going for concerts, movies, get togethers)
      • Being with children ( Helping them with their chores and studies)
      • Playing with children ( Outdoor activities like trekking, hiking etc.)
  • Once you have the above list ready you can just tick on the action item for the coming weekend. Action item is nothing but a task which can be performed immediately.

    • Family ( Action Items as per the priority)
      • Dining together ( 1 – Can be done today )
        • Check availability of all the family members including timings
        • Plan dinner accordingly.
      • Spending Time With Each Other ( 4 – Can be done on Sunday)
        • Check the tickets for concerts, movies or check invites for the get together if any
        • Send RSVP for get togethers
        • Take consent from the family on Saturday to book tickets.
      • Being with children ( 2 – Can be done today )
        • Helping children with their chores, is best done on weekend.
        • Check whether they have any homework left or any project work to be submitted over the weekend.
        • If exams are on, you can sit with them for preparations
      • Outdoor Activities ( 3 – Can be done on Saturday )
        • These activities can be planned in advance or on the go.

This is how in the next 3 days you will accomplish something which you have been planning for a long time and have been procrastinating for the whole year.

This is just the example.

The whole point of making these 17 days amazing is avoiding procrastination.

If you are struggling to start the workouts – you are not alone. I am there in the boat too and I desperately want to go back to my workout routine. Somehow, things are not falling into place or I am waiting for too long for them to fall in place. 😉 To start the workouts, the best way is

  • To identify which time suits you the best.
  • Start with your favourite workout
    • Walking is the best thing to do when you want to start the workout
    • Home workout videos
      • I love home workout videos, generally they are the best when you stay in a unpredictable weather
        • I already have enlisted number of home videos in my this post
    • Run
      • Participate in any of the upcoming marathons to get the workout.
      • Some people need constant motivation like some challenges or marathons to be regular with their workout
    • Hobbies
      • Is there any class that you started last year and have stopped going?
      • Zumba, Aerobics, Bharatnatyam, Kathak? Start it all over again to get in your dose of endorphins.
    • Yoga
      • If you have been practising Yoga, this is the time to start it all over again but in case you would like to start, you have some wonderful help on you tube. Will detail out in the next post.
    • Cycling
      • Cycling is my best friend. You can start weekend rides with your friends and join any facebook group for cycling. They take longer rides on weekends. Workout with fun is the new name of Cycling

Most of us, including me suffer the new age issue called “Meal Planning”. Especially after marriage my meal planning prowess has grown multifolds. After a baby it has gone to a whole new level. If you would like to be food conscious, these 17 days can make or break your new year in terms of food.

You must be knowing that it takes 21 days to make a habit, we already have 17 in our hands. Men and Women both can do meal planning and it is a super easy stuff.

With only 17 in hands..we have a lot of accomplish without procrastination..so are you game?

A New Beginning and A New Experience

A new beginning is very exciting, it becomes more meaningful when shared with family and friends.

As our dear blog readers you all are our extended family members and we could not wait further to tell you about our new venture and the kind of experience it has been since last month.

Around a month ago, I had severe headache radiating to right shoulder to fingers. It was so severe that I could barely talk. One such afternoon when all the pain was getting settled, I went to Shrilekha’s place over a tea. We stay just a couple of KM apart so occasional tea is always welcome besides we consider it as a quick huddle over looming matters.

As we were discussing different things, Shrilekha being her usual very enterprising self came up with a thought that Chennai has very poor quality of Phulkas and we should certainly do something about it.

There was no further thought before we decided that we should do Phulkas.

Initially it just started with Phulkas and slowly, as per the demand we started serving dinner. Word of mouth was our main ally when it came to spreading word. We cannot thank enough to our friends who spread the word so quickly. As we were doing dinners which included One gravy and Phulkas, we slowly started getting requests for lunches too. All office goers needed a home cooked lunch, so that requirement was fulfilled. Recently, we completed one month of this endeavour called “Joshi Caterers”

The main mission of this venture is to reach out to people who need home cooked food. As people love pizza, they also love to eat Puran Poli. It is just about the right taste and on time delivery.

Most of the customers which we came across never ate outside because one can not eat food without onion garlic outside. Similarly, food we should eat when we are fasting like Sabudana Vada or Sabudana Khichadi is never served in any restaurant in Chennai.

We served it and people liked it very much, we are so grateful to each of them who encouraged us with their amazing feedbacks.

Having home cooked food is a bliss. I was outside for 8 long years of my life and I have always felt the dearth of good home-made food so much so that in the last 2 years I started cooking on my own. Even if there was food, it was not made with quality ingredients which is even more harmful to the body.

As every business has its challenges, we too come across some difficulties every now and then. But when priorities are set right and as a team when we work towards getting a solution it all falls back in place.

Apart from Shrilekha and Me, there is a team of 5 people who are constantly working at making this experience better with every delivery. Our families have been extremely encouraging, without them we could not have pulled it up.

Meal planning was being done at the micro level and now it is done at Macro Level. We think and plan all our meals carefully so that they are nutritious and include seasonal varieties of vegetables.

I would always say that nothing can be accomplished without collaboration.

My people Khaleel, Kamakshi, Vignesh, Murali Mama, Mr.Joshi have been an integral part of the whole process. They encouraged us to take a step ahead and are with us in this satisfying yet challenging journey. Deliveries and procurement is entirely looked after Khaleel, Vignesh and Murali Mama. Culinary doubts and issues are quickly sorted by Baba. Kamakshi is an efficient cook and an amazing help. These people are my people and as a close knit family would stand by each other in the ups and downs of the life, they have been there just behind us as pillar of strength.

Well begun is half done..the journey so far was satisfying and god willing, it would be so in future.

March Here I Come – Plan for the Month of March

March Here I Come – Plan for the Month of March

Life comes a full circle when I enter the month of March. It is mostly because the monthly calendar is filled up to the brink in this month. The Palash flowers bloom as the month of Holi starts, and the heatwave makes its way through Northern India. The Gulmohar starts shedding its dull look, and the red flowers bloom for almost two months till May.
Indians formally welcome the summer through HOLI, the festival of colors, nature plays Holi with different color flowers blooming.
It is also officially the last month in the new financial year, and all the entrepreneurs have to muster up the courage to close the old financial books and open the new ones. In many ways, March needs a lot of preparation and planning to just be through it, unlike other twelve months.

So what is on cards in the Month of March for me?

  • Work
    • Content Planning
    • Implementation of Kaizen ( Continuous Improvement)
    • Better Employee Relationships
  • Personal Habits
    • Working out six days a week
    • Clean eating
    • More water intake
    • Meditation
    • Reducing Gadget Time
  • Planning
    • Household Organization
    • Using KonMari Method
    • HW and Play Date Planning
    • Family Functions

I plan using #Hobonichi Techo Cousin and #Hobonichi Original English Version.

Because discipline in all these aspects only will bring the best out of this month..With all this in my kitty, I should say

March, Here I Come!

March Post!

Planning your year ahead – Hobonichi Planner is a must have

Planning your year ahead – Hobonichi Planner is a must have

Introduction:

As the Christmas goes by the new year is awaited. This is the time of the year when bookshelves are flooded with yearly planners, diaries and other cool stationary just to kick start the new year on a positive note. With each year we are moving further into the digital arena and have digital pads in our hands even for jotting down something. But, there are people like me who still believe in the pen, paper type of writing. I have written diaries for years and professionally being into Project Management and Continuous improvement, I tried my hands at planning last year. Planning day to day activities to a little bit of process improvement in my daily routine was the priority in 2017. I could do a lot of changes to my day to day routine with planners. Often it is a challenge, but 2017 was meticulously planned and executed.. well at least 70% was as per the plan. This time I have decided to write everything down in a Hobonichi Planner. Hobonichi Techo Cousin 2018 is a yearly planner which is regarded all over the world at least in the planner circle.
Initially started in 2001, in Tokyo Japan, Hobonichi has been selling around 6,00,000 planners around the world. This planner is way too different than other yearly planners I must say. But first of all, let us just ask ourselves,

Why do you need a planner or a diary?

  • The planner helps to keep the priorities in place because we write them down. Writing your preferences enables you to work on them without distractions
  • You can schedule your work more efficiently with the planner.
  • One can do more if all the tasks are laid down on a piece of paper.
  • If the tasks are not done, one can reflect on it and can schedule it for the next possible time.
  • The planner helps you to stay focused in the world full of distractions.

Hobonichi Planner – A sneak peek

The most important aspect of any diary is the spread which is from the January (New year) to the December. Some journals have separate pages for every day, some of them club it. I prefer a full day spread because I write a lot. But carrying a massive journal is very tedious. Last year I had three journals, one had a weekly spread, another one had a full day spread and the third one had just plain pages to jot down any random thought anywhere, it was a pocket size diary with “Pencil, Paper, Action” written over it <3. HOBONICHI Planner is all in one…Just a little bulky but better than carrying three diaries with you all the time.

Hobonichi has three sections.

Hobonichi Main Page – I ordered Cousin which is A5 size – doubly bigger than the original Hobonichi Techo.

Hobonichi Yealy Planner

  • Yearly Index

  • Monthly Calendar

  • Daily Page

Timetable

Hobonichi has a timetable which is so helpful in jotting down the routine and non-changing chores like watching TV or mundane household work. Having a timetable on the diary is such a blessing for forgetful people like me.

My 100

There are other things like a page for My 100 where one can include 100 important things one want to accomplish in the year. I know after all the new year wishes, and one more week it gets so mundane that no one will ever want to note down the 100 things and all..but how thoughtful is it to have a space in the daily journal. It also has age table which is Japanese, and I am yet to figure out how to use it.

This is a Hobonichi Cousin which is a bigger version of Hobonichi Original. These planners do have English versions too. You can get Hobonichi Planner here..https://www.1101.com/store/techo/en/

Hobonichi planner is a good way to start planning your days because
